Why not? After a long flight and visiting a foreign country wouldn’t you want to indulge? I remember in France using the L’Occitane products and whenever I smell their cream it just transports me back to the fond memories. The NYTimes.com shares how beauty brands are now partnering with hotels and airlines such as bareMinerals with Virgin Atlantic with the Upper Class cherry red lip gloss or Uslu Airlines with exclusive nail polishes for Hôtel Costes in Paris and Ace Hotel in New York. I think it’s a better souvenir than a snow globe, don’t you?

On a hot summer day a nice cold sweet treat is necessary to cool down and that’s where People’s Pops comes in. I’ve seen them around the East Village with their small pop up but now they are all over the city. I happen to visit the one by Madison Square Park and decided to check it out for myself.

I opted for the raspberry pop and all I can say is that you can definitely tell it was crushed fruit since there were actual seeds. It was sweet and tart and perfect for the hot summer day.

Foodie Quickie - Tech Munch 2012

I had the pleasure of attending my first Tech Munch conference this year and had a blast! I got to taste some delicious treats, learn a few things here and there from the panels and attend some cooking demonstrations with Always Order Dessert and Nomnivorous. I never win anything but this time I won 20 lbs of potatoes from Idaho Potato so I’m sure you’ll see some cookbook confessions featuring the potatoes. So whoever close to me is on a carb free diet is going to have to put it on hold.

Heard about this Puddin’ shop in the East Village and thought I would take a pit stop with Denise of dee Cuisine to check out the hype.

They offer a wide array of flavors and when I asked what was recommended they said butterscotch or rice pudding. Denise opted for the rice pudding and I for the banana in the mini sizes.

The banana pudding was a bit too sweet but you can taste it’s homemade with real bananas and not with artificial flavoring. Since it’s pudding it was so rich and creamy, personally I probably should’ve added toppings for some added texture. However it was a nice treat for the middle of the day.

Puddin is located at 102 St. Marks Place between 1st and Avenue A.

One day at work my co-worker and I were just chatting about food and he showed me this amazing video and even let me share it with you (thank you John!). I am slowly entering the world of bizarre foods a la Zimmern but John has already mastered it from his trip to Korea where he got to eat a live octopus. This is on my to-do list and hope I can be as successful as the culinary expert Zimmern and make him proud.

Cookbook Confessions - How to Make a Frappe

The first thing I learned as a little girl when I was living in Greece at the tender age of 9 is how to make a Frappe. If you have ever visited Greece you know nothing will get done until they are done with their Frappe and cigarette. With that being said I make a mean frappe and thought I would share how to make one for yourself - perfect iced cold coffee for the summer and to transport you to Greece. In this case I’m making it με γάλα (with milk).

Step 1: Take two teaspoons of Nescafe original instant coffee and put just a little bit of water. Don’t fill up your glass just yet. This is also the part where you would add the sugar if you like your coffee sweet but in this case it’s just milk so no sugar was used.

Step 2: You can either use a hand mixer as seen on the right or use a shaker (seen on the left) and put ice. If you’re like Bond some people like it shaken and not stirred. Both methods are effective.

Step 3: If and only if you used the mixer the best way to test that you are done and know it’s perfect is when you can hold the cup upside down and it doesn’t spill out. DO NOT do this if you used the shaker. Now this is where you can just add water to make it black or a mix of water and light to the way you prefer it. I just put a little water and the rest was milk.

Step 4: Just put in a straw and enjoy! My husband seemed to enjoy his.

Now that you have a foundation on how to make a frappe you should know the terminology so you know how to make it at home or when you’re out you can order it.

Sweet (Γλυκός) means with extra sugar

Μέτριος (Metreos) means equal parts coffee and sugar

Σκέτος (Plain) means black coffee

Με Γάλα (With Milk) means with just milk
